EVIDENCE-BASED PREVENTION
Evidence shows that the best way to avoid cardiovascular events and interventions such as heart attack, stroke, angioplasty or bypass surgery, is to prevent or reverse cardiovascular disease at the earliest stages (potentially beginning in men and women around age 30). “Fixing” disease once it has had years to develop is far less effective. Coeur Health offers a new way of anticipating and managing heart and vascular disease that merges the latest scientific medical research with a novel, more thorough approach to detecting and reducing risk. Working in conjunction with the board certified cardiologists from Lafayette Heart clinic, and affiliated with the prestigious Rasmussen Center at the University of Minnesota and Cohn Prevention Centers, Coeur Health uses a research-based system of screening that has shown to detect disease when other “traditional” screening tools might miss.
EARLY DETECTION
We are helping to lead the way in the delivery of preventive cardiology by utilizing advanced screening tools to detect risk early, before disease has had time to progress. By screening individuals who may have risk factors and early signs of cardiovascular disease that have yet to be noticed symptomatically or identified by a physician, we can help unveil conditions that could lead to heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure. For more information on our screening options, please see our Services and Procedures page.
LAFAYETTE HEART CLINIC
Lafayette Heart Clinic was founded by David G. Baker, MD in 1982 and continues to be one of the largest and most respected cardiology practices in Acadiana. Your initial visit and testing is conducted by our Nurse Practitioner, who is specially trained in preventive cardiology. For those completing our Comprehensive Cardiovascular Evaluation, the entire visit and test results are reviewed by our cardiologist who will then meet with you to thoroughly explain results and review his recommendations. JAY COHN, MD
Coeur Health’s early screening and disease detection system was developed by Jay N. Cohn, M.D., a professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. A pioneer in developing cardiovascular assessment and therapy procedures, Dr. Cohn has written extensively about hypertension, congestive heart failure, and vascular compliance. He was the founding Editor in Chief of the Journal of Cardiac Failure, a co-author of the major textbook, Cardiovascular Medicine, and serves on the editorial boards of many major journals in the cardiovascular field. Results from Dr. Cohn’s cardiac testing and prevention clinic, the Rasmussen Center, have been widely disseminated at primary care medicine and preventive cardiology conferences throughout the USA and abroad.
After years of research, Dr. Cohn and his colleagues refined this specific collection of diagnostic and laboratory tests in order to provide the most effective way to detect cardiovascular disease within a non-invasive, outpatient setting. Lafayette Heart Clinic chose the Rasmussen / Cohn Prevention Center model based on this evidence-based approach.
